commodore 4016-n with extreme water damage

...it looks like the commodore has the keyboard, cassette recorders, and screen on the IEEE488 bus!!!
No, you misunderstood; the first 4 device addresses (kbd, cass. etc.) are internal, i.e. not on the IEEE488 bus

... so is it possible to connect 2 or more commodore CBM/PETs and have a program on one outputting on the others screen?
Yes.

I have had a looked at the schematics and there are 7 roms 6x 2332 roms 1x 2316 rom, from your link 2 have BASIC in them and I think 1 is is the character rom, an editor rom. thats 4 roms + the custom lab rom, what are the other 2 or 3 for?
There are normally 6 ROMs in a 40/8032 (and a dynamic RAM PET with BASIC 4):
UD6,8, 9 & 10: 2332/4kB, Kernel & BASIC4
UD7: 2316/2kB, Language/model-specific stuff - Editor, keyboard table, etc,
UA3: 2316/2kB (optionally 2332/4kB)Character generator

UD11 & 12: Spare sockets for optional 2316 or 2332 compatible (EP)ROMs

rust removel with vinegar and shower gel

two weeks ago I for about a week, I soaked the rusty screws in cheap vinegar and shower gel to clean the rust off, it work really well so I tryed it on a very corroded transistor for a few days, see how well it worked! I did take them out every day or so and give them a quick scrub with an old tookbrush

Yikes! it took me a while to realize that the first pic is the AFTER pic! You weren't kidding about the corrosion. How far away are you from turning it on. Haven't seen a whole board pic in a while...or ever...did you originally post one?

I did take a load of pics some did not come out well, I have been away for a week, I should have taken a pic of the pile of rust that fell out when I put it on the floor when I got it home!!!

I am probably a week or 2 from testing the main board and the crt, don't know! some of the diodes I cant buy so have to use subs

when I am done it would be good to do a proper right up of the repair, for others

main board

main board

I have posted some pics of the main board, it was the first bit I worked on so an early page, I am waiting for the new ic sockets the old ones have bad corrosion

there is some pics on page 3 but I don't think I have a pic of the top of the board before I cleaned it.

I have found a jar a keys from an PC keyboard I took apart when I was 12! and the springs are the same!

I have now got a TTL logic probe, for when I power it up and have problems.

I have finished cleaning and varnishing the transformer, and its the first part to go back in

working on the CRT

working on the CRT

I have cleaned up the CRT, but some of the conductive coating came off especially where the earth spring would make contact, I have got some "wire glue" for repairing the rubber contacts in the keyboard, but the stuff works great on the CRT, I have also sealed in the rust I cant scrub off with epoxy and varnish (metal only)

need help finding parts

need help finding parts

I have run out of solder! so I am waiting for my new solder to arrive so I can resume replacing the corroded ic sockets and other components.

I have had trouble finding some of the needed components like a new earth spring and pots for the crt, all the ones I can buy have the pins in a line and the commodore has the pins in a triangle for strength

a pic of the wire glue
the spring is 10cm or 4 inches long
R261 250k pot that fits on a shaft so you can adjust it with out taking the back off
R255 1M ohm pot
R253 1M ohm pot

got a new commodore 8032

got a new commodore 8032

I have got another commodore a 8032, 80 col, and it does not look so hard to fix, it has an adapter between the cpu and the main board "sm software uk tel 045346065 serial no. 2128" it has what looks like ram on it?

I now have 3 commodores the first is in storage I got it when I was 12 or so it has a lovely rounded case, removable keyboard, external double 5.25 inch disk drive and a non matching ieee488 printer and leads and software some sort of spreadsheet that is need disks and a cartage, it also has a rs232 port, I will have to find out what it is I haven't powered it up in 15 years!!!

the new components arrived today to fix the 4016, I have marked all the ones to replace with tipex and will start work tonight, but I am going away soon so wont have it powered up for 8 weeks or so.

in the end I would like to have all 3 commodores working and networked together by the ieee488 bus and connected to my main network

I have also got a old eprom burner, it an old one it uses an 8 bit ISA card I will have to put it in my ibm xt, it can take a 8 eproms and once!

fitting new caps

fitting new caps

I have replaced all the caps exeped the largest can sized one, as I still don't know its esr, I may have to reform it and use it, I have fitted new ic sockets, the old ones where very hard to get out even with the solder sucker and desolding brade, I am still wating for the 40 pin cpu socket to arive and some other bits, as I had to distrory the old ic sockets to get them out I am dreding having to remove any ics to fult find.

I have also fitted a socket inplace so I can install ieee488 devices in the 4016s cace like a flash drive.

I have also replaced all the diodes that fell off the crt board! and have started on the coroded resisters on both boards, if I get all the work done before I leave I will have it powered in a few days!

I still have to fit the fuses on the transformer and the crobar protection on the 5v 12v and -5v lines.

It is suprising what has got most damaged by the damp, the steeel parts of the case were very badly croded it now has about 4 tubes of epoxy on it, also two types of diode coroden badly and fell off! and the caps went lumpy! And the ic sockets were bad but the ics in them were more coroded, its posable that a lot of ics that get replaced in old commodores just needen there pins scraped clean?
