I have just acquired a new (to me) VAXstation 3100. I remember using a VAX in middle / high school, and couldn't pass up the chance to pick one up. Unfortunately, I am not sure where to go from here....
First off, I opened it up - nice and clean inside, but no hard drives. Second, I powered it up, and the diagnostic lights stop at 1000 1010, which the only site on the internet that discusses these things says is a problem with the MMU - eek. I was hoping if there was a problem that it would be RAM or something easy to swap out. Is the MMU on these easy to replace? Can I fix this somehow, or is this a bad starter VAX? Third, I guess I want to connect a console cable to this at some point... can I buy one or do I need to make one?
