Sound Cards For Sale Tracker

What's especially tragic about that particular prediction is that the Sound Source has a fixed output rate of 7Khz. (It is fixed in the hardware design; you can't "overdrive" or "overclock" it.) It is acceptable for voice, adequate for sound effects, and useless for music. There is no possible way it could replace even the original Covox Speech Thing (which was entirely driven by CPU and had a higher frequency range).

My guess is that Dvorak had never actually heard one when he wrote that blurb.

I think his kids were crazy over anything related to Disney. Unfortunately he was simply ignorant of the fact that sample-based synthesis and floppy disks only really became the standard on the Amiga.

It works fine. I put that in to prevent eBay buyer fraud. That has happened to me a few times over the years. I send the item: the buyer swaps it out with a defective model and wants his / her $ back. I am not assuming that risk anymore.

Let me know how it works out for you. I really doubt it will stand up to SNAD or eBay BP case. You clearly say the item works great so it better work great when it arrives and is taken apart for parts. Of course eBay is out to screw their customers (i.e. the buyers) again and it has been getting worse for the past year and a half so maybe they will side with the sellers on this.

As for the "scam" I've heard of it - the sellers are constantly complaining about how they get scammed 3 times a day but they continue selling so my guess is more then likely if it was reported as broken it was because it arrived broken. At least that is usually what I see on the buyer side (i.e. item arrives in pieces because the seller did not pack well).

Offering a money-back guarantee helps to discourage buyer scams, because in case they have "buyer's remorse" and don't want it, they can just return it for a refund (with return shipping at their own expense), instead of having to lie and say that it doesn't work or got damaged in shipping (in which case YOU end up paying for the return shipping!). Yes, having to accept the return and relist it is a hassle, but not as much of a hassle as having to deal with a fraudulent claim against you.

Isn't that the new scam by sellers now? I.E. they roll the dice with poor packing and if it arrives broken and the buyer complains then they just offer a refund with return shipping at buyer's expense? So now the buyer is on the hook for shipping back the broken junk at his expense. Previously eBay made sure that these abuses were stopped and sellers used to pay return shipping (or packed well so these problems did not occur). Now, even if you escalate eBay just says seller willing to give a refund so return at your expense. Note that I am not referring to straight returns: those returns S&H costs have always been buyer's responsibility but the SNAD cases.

The seller can elect to pay for the return shipping, but of course most don't -- in which case it's up to eBay's Resolution Center staff to decide on a case-by-case basis whether or not it's covered when the buyer reports the item as damaged or SNAD. As their FAQ says, "If the cost of return shipping isn't covered by the seller according to their return policy, we [i.e. eBay itself] may decide to pay for return shipping costs in some cases. If we don't pay for the return shipping costs, the buyer is responsible."

But to your point, one time I bought a stereo receiver and chose "economy" shipping (i.e. ground/parcel post) because I wasn't in a hurry to get it. The seller just threw it in a box with no padding on the edges, and of course it arrived with the corners of the faceplate bent and cracked. The seller had the nerve to tell me, "well, you chose economy shipping, so if you wanted me to pack it better, you should've chosen priority shipping." But thankfully after some arguing I was able to get them to refund the shipping cost. (I didn't return it because it still worked fine; the damage was just cosmetic.)
