Need Help with CDROM Drivers on a 486

Here are the pics of my controller (Promise DC2000-B), and the XTIDE from the machine. I'm going to borrow a commercially burned CD that I shouldn't have any problems with, and I'll have to see what happens with that. I didn't think I'd have a problem with Verbatim CDs. I even found a TDK DVD+R...

Need Help with CDROM Drivers on a 486

I set the jumper to master and the only change is now the drive will spin up when I try to run a file. When it was set to slave, it didn't even spin up. But still doesn't read the file. I am able to copy a file from the cd-r to the c: folder and it shows in the C folder, even correct file size...

Need Help with CDROM Drivers on a 486

The drives arrived yesterday. One had something rattling inside which turned out to be a piece of a broken CD, so we'll leave that one for now. I installed the oakcdrom drivers and connected the hitachi dvd-rw first, moving the jumper to slave. Rebooting I can see the drivers loading. And it...

Need Help with CDROM Drivers on a 486

The cd-rom will be the only thing on that cable. I don't have a physical spinning hard drive. I run an xtide with a cf-card that doesn't use this interface card at all.

Need Help with CDROM Drivers on a 486

Yes, you are correct, the Samsung is a CD-RW I apologize. This is my first time installing an optical drive, so I'm reading as I go. I guess all I can really do is see if the oak drivers recognize any of them. That's really all I have to go with, and hope.

Need Help with CDROM Drivers on a 486

I'm awaiting on 3 DVD RW IDE optical drives, Samsung SW252, NEC ND-3450A, and Hitachi GDR-8162B. They were made around 2006. Will I be able to use the Oak cdrom drivers to install these. I found the drivers for each, but they run on Windows 98, which my 486dx33 8mb won't run. Only 3.1. Thanks

    Need Help with Installing Soundblaster

I modified the line to read DOS=HIGH,UMB. I didn’t remove the smartdrv line. I could see when I rebooted it says DOS is now in upper memory. I don't understand why it shows 0K on the MSDOS line under upper memory. Didn't it put it there? The games that were giving me trouble all play properly...

    Need Help with Installing Soundblaster

I haven't changed the current CONFIG.SYS yet. I ran memmaker and it freed up some conventional memory. I selected the quick selection so it would decide what it needed to do. I'm able to run Hocus Pocus now which didn't run before. Bio Menace plays but it says there's not enough memory for music...

    Need Help with Installing Soundblaster

I was reading moving the soundblaster drivers to upper memory to free up conventional memory, I need to utilize the EMM386.EXE command if the CONFIG.SYS. The example it said was DEVICE=EMM386.EXE RAM. Any specific location in the CONFIG.SYS this needs to be? And of course, is this correct?

    Need Help with Installing Soundblaster

Thanks Gig. Like I said this is my first sound card so I’m learning. Now the 2 devices makes sense. I found a video on YouTube where he showed how to install the drivers and where he go his from. Phil’s Computer or something like that. But I downloaded the 2 self-extracting exe files from the...

    Need Help with Installing Soundblaster

Hello members, I finally got around to installing a Soundblaster CT4180 in my 486. I downloaded the drivers. I don't have a CD rom so I extracted the ISO to a CF card. The manual says the file I need to run is WIN\31\DISK1\SETUP, which I did through windows 3.1. I selected the recomended "quick"...

Need Help Identifying Paradise VGA Board

Those links led me to other links and eventually I found the card appears to be the "VGA Professional 16bit". I couldn't find my exact revision but I found one that has mostly SMD ICs but the board is the same. The chart explains the 4 DIP switches and where they should be and it makes sense...

Need Help Identifying Paradise VGA Board

Hello members, I need help identifying a Paradise VGA card. The only markings on the card itself are “V16”. The back has no printing at all. I’m looking for a manual for it as well. I presume the 8 empty sockets are for a ram upgrade and I’m sure jumpers and DIP switches will need to be set...

Why no Color with Windows 1.01?

Hello members, Through great help of a fellow member I was able to get Windows 1.01 running on my XT under a DOS 6.2.2 OS. And as the title of this post says, I have no color. My 2 available options which I've tried both, are a Graphics Gremlin and an IBM CGA Color Adapter card, which is what I...
