    Firewire was prevalent with P4 systems. Quite a few Socket 478 motherboards came with Firewire connectivity. More expensive AMD Athlon motherboards also featured Firewire.

    Maxtor XT-1140 MFM drive short?

    Probable that the tantalum caps are shot and in need of replacement. A deeper investigation will probably show some blown caps as well.
