Help with getting dos on a cf card with a modern pc

Cover the hole so the drive “thinks” it’s a 720k disk, then just format with a standard command. Works every time for me.

Help with getting dos on a cf card with a modern pc

Regarding step 1, another option that may be available to you is described at [here] This is exactly how I ended up being successful with getting CF cards working on my 5150, after weeks of frustration. I got a period-correct 720k drive to (temporarily) install in my 5150, and another...

    IBM PC 5150 Rev.A (Early S/N : 0101876)

The earliest ones were the raised nut version with the red label. I think they went to the black sunken nut version at about serial 160000-ish. My serial 1049 has the raised nut version. In fact it was so early the Molex labels (p4, p5, p10, etc) were handwritten on the connectors at the factory.

It may, though it’s a bit later with the sunken nut power supply. Hard to make out the serial number.

1986 IBM Card, Please Help to Identify

That’s an extended mono graphics adapter for the RT PC. They use that strange video connector but I believe the output was just 1024x768.

10Mhz XT to fast for memory card?

250ns works fine with 4.77MHz, but the faster speeds do need those faster RAM chips.

    Early 5150 troubleshooting

Every 5150 gold-capped ceramic u29 I have ever seen has been bad, including several of my own. Not a statistically significant sample by any means, but certainly frustrating to me…my hunt continues…

    IBM PC 5150 Rev.A (Early S/N : 0101876)

So, this exact system just popped back on eBay for considerably more than it sold for just 2 weeks ago. Someone’s just trying to make a quick buck.

As are a lot of 5150s as well.

    IBM PC 5150 Rev.A (Early S/N : 0101876)

With the sunken nut black power supply, I would guess a serial number range around 180000+, but that’s just a wild guess. But probably no earlier than that. Unfortunately the only place for the serial number was the rear sticker.

    IBM PC 5150 Rev.A (Early S/N : 0101876)

I completely agree. I know several in this forum are tracking these things but it would be neat to have an online “registry” of sorts. A lot of the early systems were upgraded over the years so it would be hard to track some things, but certainly motherboard and other things like speaker would...

    IBM PC 5150 Rev.A (Early S/N : 0101876)

What constitutes “early” is a bit subjective and really depends on the collector. Many will consider PC1 (aka Rev A) as all early, whereas I tend to cut it off at the first 100k produced…anything after that doesn’t have a lot of the “interesting” differences that show how IBM went from small...
