Have heard it is all about the flux. Am using solder with flux. Don't have a proper way to clean the tip which is likely an issue. Mesh is an idea, Usually just an old sponge and lightly crape off with a blade when too bad. Need new tip(s) anyway. Yes, horrible practices.
