    Gateway P4D-100 Turbo hotkeys?

So I've got this Gateway with a Turbo indicator but no button. In other threads I've read that these models have keyboard shortcuts you can use to turn the turbo on or off. I saw someone mention CTRL-ALT-Numpad- or CTRL-ALT- Numpad+ but those do not work for me. No hints in the BIOS. Anyone...

Recommended PS/2 optical mice for DOS?

Just wondering.... have you seen indications of new DOS viruses? I don't know why everyone is fully focused on 80's and 90's viruses when it seems more likely to me that stuff you download over the Internet could be infected with stuff that someone wrote in the last year. There's no reason why...

Recommended PS/2 optical mice for DOS?

Thanks. I ended up formatting the hard drive and reinstalling everything, while performing virus checks on every floppy disk using f-prot. No viruses. All systems nominal. No idea what happened. It's possible I still have a virus lurking in some files that I had transferred via FTP. I will...

Recommended PS/2 optical mice for DOS?

Alright so, further investigation into my problem has indicated that the mouse is not the issue. I was able to find an old usb mouse with a ps/2 adapter, and it exhibited the same symptom. It just seems to randomly freak out and start inputting random values for everything. I wonder now if I...

Recommended PS/2 optical mice for DOS?

I got this cheap Perixx PS/2 optical mouse for use on my 486. I was running the open source CTMOUSE driver for the past few weeks and never had any issues, but for some strange reason today the mouse started acting wonky. It seems that it will randomly get confused and treat x/y axis movements...

    Gateway 2000 4DX2-66

I stand corrected. So a 54x CD-ROM could theoretically saturate the bus. That's still pretty fast.

    Gateway 2000 4DX2-66

No CD-Drive could ever saturate the ISA bus. That's 16 MB/s. You'd need a 107x Speed CD-ROM drive to hit that bandwidth. A DVD drive on the other hand would saturate the ISA bus at 12x Speed.

Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 Pro + Win 3.11 default display modes?

OMG! You are my hero. I was, in fact, using the 3D 2000 ones! I'm a happy dude right now. Thank you!

Point and Click Adventure Games from the late 90's

Finding all the ways to die is fun in itself. I love all the silly deaths Sierra came up with. It gave the games extra challenge and immersion. As for what an adventure game is supposed to be about, that's just your opinion. In my opinion, if death is not a possibility, it isn't really an...

Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 Pro + Win 3.11 default display modes?

I'm having trouble getting this thing to work under Win 3.11. I have both the generic S3 ViRGE drivers and the Diamond v1.01 driver installed. If I select the Stealth 3D driver, it tries to boot Windows into 640x480 @ 73hz, according to my monitor, which just gives a black screen because the...

    Symphony IDE controller??

Hi! I'm a newbie here, just getting into retro PC builds. I recently acquired a Gateway 2000 486DX4/100 machine. It has a WD Caviar 2340 Intelligent AT drive, a NEC CD-260 CD-ROM drive, and this odd little IDE controller by Symphony (photo of an identical model I found on a Google search is...
