I wonder if I've hit an incompatibility between the built-in Trident SVGA and my IBM 9518. I've tried flipping DIP switch #8, which is for monitors with H-Sync less than 48.7kHz, which I think might apply here -- but still no dice. The VGA cable has less than the full complement of pins...
