COMPAQ Portable III err msg 105

I'm the proud owner of a COMPAQ Portable III, but now I get an error msg: 102 systemboard failure.
So far I checked the DS1287 and noticed that the battery has gone bad, VRT bit7 in register D is zero.
Replacing it with a DS12887 did not work.(Activated the chip first)
Can someone help me with this problem please?
