I got a Compaq Deskpro 2000 P166 WITHOUT MMX yesterday and it was apparently owned by the FAA. It had a multi-serial card plus another serial/lpt card plus the built-in one. It runs just fine but of course the battery was dead so I replaced it (why do they solder them in). It needs the date set and there's no F10 choice to launch BIOS setup so I started investigating. Looks like those old Compaqs used a set of 3 disks that you can make from a file they used to have that some people have made available. I went through the steps and made the 3 disks then went through the steps to install the setup partition and finally got the F10 option at boot.

All very good but when it starts the setup it tells me it's the wrong disks for my system. My system has a P166 but no MMX and it takes a different set of disks. While setting up the 3 disks it mentions MMX. The machine is a Deskpro 2000 5166.

Does anyone know where I can get the right ones?

I did learn a lot about Compaqs yesterday. :D
