Hey guys, it has been a long time since I posted but wanted to see if y'all can help me out.

Bit of a backstory. When I was in middle school I bought this Itronix laptop from a yard sale for $8. It didn't have a power supply or anything. It runs on 12v power so a supply was easy enough to come up with and I had it running in no time! It originally had Windows 3.1 but I later upgraded to Windows 95. Back in the day I had a bunch of accessories for it- including a PC-Card CD-ROM and GPS software that would track you while driving (12v made in an obvious choice). Me and my Granddad used to go geocaching all the time and this was a great platform, well before GPS really got a foothold. Although I usually had better computers, this one was always my favorite.

Alas, time went on and the computer got put into storage until last week when I was cleaning the storage and found it. I knew I wanted to get it working again more for nostalgia than anything else. I had hoped to plug it in and be on my way, but that was not the case. For one, the battery had exploded. Luckily, due to the sturdiness of this computer, the only damage was to the battery itself. The next issue came when I plugged it in and heard the hard drive. Let's just say there was no hope of getting any data off of it.

I'd seen those SD-to-IDE adapters so I got on amazon and ordered one up. I figured throw it in and reinstall windows and be on my way. Well, I won't bore you with the details (unless somebody is interested) but it was a lot more complicated than I thought. Nonetheless- I was able to get windows 95 installed and its running good. Actually quite a bit faster than I remember likely thanks to the SD card.

Now- onto my questions. Originally the computer had some software on it that was particular to the model. For one, it had a battery program that was awesome! It also had some other features like a help guide, modem software, etc. However, I haven't been able to locate it anywhere. I found a couple sites but links are all dead. Anybody have any leads? I remember back in the day there was a yahoo group for itronix XC laptops, you could find anything on there, but alas, it to has vanished.

Second- battery. Anybody know where I may find a battery for this old beast? I scoured ebay but only found whole units, and would rather not buy a whole thing just for a battery. I did see one that included a spare battery and messaged the seller to see if they would sell separate- fingers crossed.

Anyway, here's a picture of the beast!

I've got three of them, a power supply, a few PCMCIA cards and hard drives. Haven't dug deep enough yet to see what else I have for them.

Shipping only, I really don't want to recycle them, just find home(s). :)

Patrick,

I can't DM yet, not enough posts. You'd think I'd have had something to add to a conversation since 2018... :)

It looks like $24.75 via US Postal, UPS is quite a bit higher. Smallest flat-rate box that it'll fit in.

I've only found one so far, with a 110 adapter and 12v cigarette lighter cord. Still digging through boxes to find extras other than a 3Com 56K modem card and a 3Com 10M LAN card, both of which sport the ever-so-fragile pop-out RJ11 and RJ45 connectors. :)

I'll keep digging through the archives, I know I have at least 2 PCMCIA hard drives somewhere.

I remember that battery calibration, it was quite awesome and accurate. I'll keep digging through my archives (getting ready to downsize after 34 years in the same house) and let you know.

Have you tried splitting the pack open at the seam to see what cells are inside? I have a battery store near me that can split, re-cell and re-weld cordless tool batteries, the guy says he can do pretty much any nicad or lithium pack no matter what shape.

I'm only 5 years into the 35 year "collection" here, and last had my hands on the XC6000 discs somewhere around 16 years ago, but I believe the one on driverguide is what you're looking for. I will continue to watch for the real McCoy, though.
