Finished my Mac Classic today. It's an early model made in September 1990.

Did a full recap, screen adjustment, and cleaning, lots of cleaning... The casing is not in the best condition, but I got the Classic for free anyway, so I'm quite pleased with the result. :)

A glimpse of how much dirt there was inside:

It's running System D1-6.0.7 with 2 MB RAM off a 40 MB hard disk. Wanted to install the full 4 MB, but it did not like the SIMMs I had.

Does anyone know how to decode the serial number of those Macs? I begin to think that this is maybe a pre-production unit. It says "Made in September 1990", but the Classic was first announced on October 15, 1990. Also, it didn't come with the same mouse and keyboard as the retail units should, but the previous owner assured that the mouse and keyboard I got with it belong to it originally.

This is the mouse, btw:

The IC inside has a date code of week 38, 1990 - so September just like the Classic. Seems to fit what the previous owner told me. Now the thing is of course that colored Apple logo. Looks like a standard ADB mouse otherwise.

Which mouse and keyboard did you get with the computer? Not sure about the mouse but I do know that the Mac Classic typically shipped with the Apple ADB Keyboard II. I couldn't find much information, but it's possible that PAL units may have shipped with a different keyboard and mouse. Regardless, the manufacturing date of September 1990 does suggest an early model. Great find, and nice job on the restoration! :)

It came with the mouse shown in post #3. The keyboard is an original Apple ADB Keyboard, not the II.

I found a website that can decode the serial number and it says my Classic was about the 6000th unit made in Singapore.

Based on the picture, the mouse is definitely a standard ADB mouse with an Apple logo sticker. Some of them may have come that way from the factory, or the previous owner put the sticker on themselves. Again I can't be 100% sure about this, but it's possible that PAL units (or early units in general) may have shipped with the original ADB keyboard and mouse. Since your particular Mac Classic is about the 6000th unit, it could still be considered one of the earlier units.
