Certainly big caps were common in the days of linear power supplies, and good reason to go to switchers.

Yes, the caps are big (and dangerous). I think the IMSAI caps are even bigger than the Altairs. If I ever do any work inside the box, I always discharge them with a big resistor. Or at least have a friend nearby that knows CPR. Those caps have a serious jolt!
