Extended 80 columns not working

I just got a "new" extended 80 columns card for my //e enhanced.

I installed it, taking careful note of the orientation. (it said "keyboard end" or something like that)

I powered it up and booted prodos. It is still in 40 columns mode. Why?
 
Oh. I feel stupid now.

Oh well, I guess that's what I get for being in such a hurry to try new stuff.

Another thing is that the 80 column card is only activated by software that uses it such as Copy II+ or Appleworks. So if the software doesn't need it, or recognize it, then the display will stay 40 column.

Yup. I knew that at least.

In prodos, the "cat" command is optimized for 40 columns. The more detailed command, "catalog", requires 80 columns or else it will occupy two rows of the screen and it will look funny.
