I really don't have a use for the 3.5" drive, as I don't have anything with that kind of connector. I assume it went to a Thinkpad.

The IBM 4869 sounds like a good unit to play around with and modify with a better drive, but I really don't need it right now. I don't have a PC old enough to even use a 5.25" drive, unfortunately. My dad won't let me hook a 5.25" up to his older computer with a BIOS that will handle it, either!!

I'm asking $50 for both of them plus shipping (I'm in Alabama). I would prefer to ship USPS, and I consider myself an excellent packer! (I've had too many bad experiences with bad shippers not to be...and I don't want to be a hypocrite!)

If you want one or the other, I think I can handle that too. PM me or post if interested.

Kyle

FWIW, the drive in the 4869 external case is a 360Kb model (4869-001), known by the ¨*¨ embossed on the front...

Yea, you need a special card to run those too (I have one in a PS/2 30-286).

The black one is for a Thinkpad, not sure the model since there are a bunch of different ones with different end connections.

The 4869-001 (360Kb drive in the enclosure) could be ran (stock, there are other ways to connect the drive with its very conventional connector) with three IBM cards: An ISA bus version for the Model 25 or Model 30 (it was most common on the 8086-based Model 30) or a microchannel card and drive sled version. It is important to note that both of these adapters just passed the B: drive connection through to the external drive (the ISA version also has a BIOS extention to be able to run the drive). A third card was microchannel, that ran the 4869-001 (360Kb) or 4869-002 (1.2Mb) drive in the enclosure, and had its own FDC on the adapter, with a driver to run it.
