Does anyone have information on the TR1402A? I haven't been able to find a datasheet, though I have found cross-references that seem to indicate it's pin-compatible with the AY-5-1013/TMS6601/et c. If that is true, then it should be pin-compatible with the TR1602...if so, what are the differences between the 1402 and 1602?

You'll find it in the 1984 Data Communications Product Handbook. The 1402 and the 1602 share the same data sheet.

The big difference between the 1402 and 1602 is that the 1602 generates 1.5 stop bits when the word length is 5 bits and SBS is high. There are slight timing differences between the 1402/1602-01 and the 1602-00 (650 vs. 500 nsec. set-up time; oddly, the -00 is faster).

Ah, no wonder I couldn't find one specifically for the 1402! The 1602 datasheet I've got, on closer examination, does mention the 1402 and recommends consulting the TR1402A datasheet only if one needs to do 5 level code-2 stop bits. Time to swap out an intermittent TMS6011!
