Model I questions

I've really been into the TRS-80 series....

I just recently scored a model I on ebay (link http://www.ebay.com/itm/170851776084)
I'm wondering what I should do for the best chance at it working correctly the first turn on....

Also, is this tape drive common?
Did I pay too much?

Well, since it isn't shown working, and all the stuff is there, there is a good chance that it won't or it won't work correctly.

As for the price, for an unknown working condition, it's probably high, but, because it has a stringy-floppy (what he calls the tape drive), it's a good price overall.

What do you suppose that the odds are that the Exatron SF carts are still readable? They weren't all that reliable when new. 30 years on, who knows?
