  • From now on we will require that a prefix is set for any items in the sales area. We have created regions and locations for this. We also require that you select a delivery option before posting your listing. This will hopefully help us streamline the things that get listed for sales here and help local people better advertise their items, especially for local only sales. New sales rules are also coming, so stay tuned.

8" and 5.25" Floppy Drive Sales, And Repair

Interesting to see this thread. I have a number of 8" drives for which I'd like to find a good home, and I'd rather not deal with ePay if at all possible. They are 2x Shugart 801's, a half high Tandon 848E, and a Qumetrack 848(?). I might have a second Qumetrack, but I can't seem to locate it at this time. I have no idea about the status of these drives since I haven't tried to use them for years. Is there still a market for 8" stuff? They are extremely heavy, so shipping would be expensive, I fear. Oh, and I also have a couple of enclosures, with built in power supplies - one single drive, and the other 2 drives (side by side). Should all this stuff go to e-waste??

Those things should avoid go to e-waste.

While it is true that outside the minicomputer share of retrocomputing 8" are rarely used, it does not mean they should be disposed of. I am proud of having an eight-incher at home plus three additional drives and I am sure a lot of people around would also like to have one, even if it is only for exposition. For instance, we are looking for a drive for our AS/400 C-10, which could be fitted with a 5" 1/4 or an 8" floppy drive unit... the first option could give us interchangeability of data with our System/36 while the second option could give us something similar with our System/23.

Please be patient

I'm very interested in a working dual-sided 8" drive, preferentially one that can work on 230VAC 50Hz mains power or DC power. But I can make use of 120VAC 60Hz devices if necessary.
