I would like to hear from anyone who has coded in assembly language for the Signetics 8X300 family. What would be of most interest would be what their programs were for.

The 8X300 was used in early Tandy external hard drives. The WD1010 was not yet available so Western Digital wrote 8x300 code to emulate it.

As long as we're listing what other people used 8X300s for:

TAC/DCA used them on their IRMA boards to support using a PC as an IBM 3270 terminal.

Tektronix, who seem like they never saw a processor architecture that they didn't want to use in something, used an 8X300 on the Option 30 motion graphics board for the 4054 and 4054A computers. (Think programmable sprites for a vector display system.)

My S100 Morrow HD-DMA HDC board uses an 8X300 for the CRC calculation. I never wrote any code for it, of course.

I wrote an HDLC (X25 level 2) handler for the 8X300 back in the days. Was used for communication between ESA units especially for ground data distribution. Module was based on a CAMAC module, a then much used standard for industrial computing. Also wrote a demonstrator for a disk elevator to speed up disk access for a government job. What is your interest in the matter?

My interest is basically that I have the end goal of reproducing a Signetics 8X300 Evaluation Kit and need the firmware from an original if I can find anyone that has it and is willing to share it.

Hi<
Yes, I know that device, I might have a binary somehwere on an old disk, but I first need to fix the drive taht can read it: 5MB DEC PDP discpack. Don't put your hope up too high, but I'll have a look.
