I've created an exhibit for VCF West that explains the actual facts of the creation of the expansion architecture for the A1000 and how Autoconfig, Zorro, Ranger, and third party peripherals like Byte By Byte's Pal/ Pal Jr fit in.
Showing:
A working Zorro/Ranger prototype backplane plugged into an A1000 with A2058 and A2091 card autobooting with KS1.3 and FFS
A working Pal Jr sitting on an A1000 with a Zorro 1 ST506 HD controller, and ZORAM booting with KS1.2
A currently non working Pal Sr.
Several Ranger/Zorro 1 plug in cards like Garganturam and a CSA 68020 accelerator card that plugged into the Pal Sr.
The Ranger thermal test mockup with Ranger front mockup, along with recently uncovered pictures from 1985 and 1986 of the Ranger mockups and early design drawings of Ranger and the Amiga 500.
There is also a Bodega Bay (non working) Z2 expansion chassis for A500.
