Hi everyone
New to this forum and vintage computers in general. I have purchased an Amstrad PC3286 of an older gentleman who had it sitting in a cupboard for about 15 years, it was his dads and i bought it as not tested. At first it didn't power up and i found the power supply only out putting 10.8v so i borrowed a power supply from a friend at work which had a 20 pin atx style plug and i just cut off and converted my old p8/p9 plugs to work on this newer power supply (didn't really want to fork out more cash on a new supply until i get the computer running).
Now it will boot up and give me the please wait for a few seconds and then give me the message "Error faulty floppy disk controller or disk drive"
It has a 3.5" and 5.25" disk drives and 1 hard drive, it is currently hooked to a dell screen i found a work as the purchase didn't come with a monitor, the motherboard looks in good condition from inspection but like i said before this is all new to me. Just wondering if anyone has and tips or ideas where to head to next? I'm not really a tech guy but are good with my hands/multi meter, just want to play some old games from my childhood. I did this many years ago and purchased an ibm ps/1 and it actually worked fine but unfortunately i had to sell it when moving interstate so keen to do it all again, apologies if any of my terminology is not quite correct but any insight would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Shane
