I bought an Atari joystick to Apple II+ Game I/O port adapter but no game I loaded would work correctly - random movement, firing constantly, etc. I assumed it was the adapter so I bought an old Apple II joystick off of Ebay and hooked it up but have the same issues. Is there something obvious I'm missing here?

IIRC, the joystick port on the Apple ][+ is just an IC socket.
Is there a chance you might be plugging the joystick in the wrong way?
(ie. rotated 180 degrees).

I did check that and the pins on both the port and the joystick are clearly labled, so I know it's plugged in correctly.

Okay, I had to ask.
So if you plug 2 different devices into the port and they both act the same way,
logically, there's something wrong with the port, perhaps a blown chip.

We'll need an Apple ][+ schematic to figure out which chips are involved with
the game port and then replace them, one by one.

Anybody have an Apple ][+ schematic?
