Hi everyone-

I now reached my Apple III's PSU in my renovation project, and I want to choose the best option for my US machine in Europe...

The subject of 110V-to-230V conversions was already discussed in different threads for Apple II(+/e with AA11040B/C), but I would love to know what are your thoughts of using 230/110V tranformers with US/Canadian/Japanese computers instead... and if somebody actually tested changing 115/230V setting at Apple III's Astec AA11190.

First, what is in your opinion the best (read safest) solution for such a vintage PSU: to change the setting at its board (see below) or to use one of the 230/110V autotransformers such as these:

(Sorry all the sites are in Polish but you can use Google Translate)

The second option which I mentioned is to reconnect wiring and change a fuse at Apple III's AA11190. From what I understand, with this PSU only the single wire at the board should be reconnected from 115V to 230V pin, and the 2.75A fuse needs to be changed to 2.5A/250 V one.

Please confirm me on this; I really don't want to burn my power supply...

You are correct that changing the fuse and that jumper wire will convert the power supply to 230v operation. I suggest that you also change the yellow 'X' cap next to the power socket since those are prone to shorting out (I can see that the one in your power supply is already cracked).

Thanks for the confirmition. Appreciated :) You are right about old RIFA caps - Internet is full of scary stories. I am about to order the folllowing two X2 caps - I think they will suit perfectly:
