Here's a stupid question, how does one add an avatar / profile picture?

Up at the upper-right side of the page, click "Settings." Then, on the left, click "Edit Profile Picture." There's also an option to change the avatar. Then, browse for the picture you want.

You can choose to find a picture either from your computer or a picture from a website.

You might have to reach a minimum number of posts/ member time before you can (not sure).

No, the forum lets you change your profile picture and avatar even with zero posts. Before I made my first post, I changed both.

Yep. You'll need to wait a while before you get access to that pic-a-nic basket.
