Hello fellow vintage pc users!

I have had a nice all-in-one AST Advantage PC, and recently acquired a matching AST advantage keyboard to use with it.

Unfortunately, when I use this keyboard, my sound card stops functioning. As soon as I remove the keyboard and switch to a different one, the sound card works again.

Has anyone encountered a problem like this before? Is it possible the keyboard is shorting out and causing a power problem? I'm very hesitant to plug it back in, as I really don't want to cause damage to my motherboard. It's not really replaceable, as it is built specifically for this machine.

Thanks for your advice!

Check the internals of the keyboard for any bad capacitors, chips, resistors, diodes, the whole 9 yards for any broken traces, cold or cracked solder joints, and for electrolytic acid on the board (leaked capacitors).
