C64 ‘Case Saver’ repair kit update!
Earlier this year we came up with the ‘C64 Case Saver Repair Kit’ The kit includes repair parts for the screw posts, PCB standoffs and the three rear tabs on the top case. The post sleeves and PCB standoffs are CNC machined out of natural ABS. The three rear tabs for the top case may be CNC machined or 3D printed. We 3D print these in such a way that the strength lies along the length of the tab, so the business end won’t snap off.
Along the way, we have discovered there were several varieties of C64 bread bin case types made. They are differentiated by the type of tab on the rear of the top case. When the kit was introduced, we knew of four bread bin case types, then a fifth type was discovered and more recently this has been increased to six types. The tabs now have the tab type embossed into them while they are 3D printed for easy identification. So far, the 64Cs seem to have used the same type of case.
Now we have repair kits for all six types of C64 bread bins known and the 64C case as well. The early VIC-20s used smaller screws so the PCB standoffs and post sleeves are different. We hope to have a kit for those the first of next year. The website was updated and there is a table of measurements for the different tab types now to make it easier to figure out which you have.
Since some folks are ordering multiple kit types for the variousC64 they have to repair we have added a quantity discount as well. When you order 2+ kits we’ll knock off $1/kit and include only one of each size drill bit (as required per kit).
