Hi,
I have been looking at the two C64's I found recently, and I (think) I have narrowed the problem down to be the PLA on the C64. The C64 displays a solid color screen, which changes if I power it on and off quickly a few times in a row.
The PLA also gets HOT to the touch after a short while. Also, the PLA is the chip which is on the top right row, right behind the two DIN connectors?
The C64G displays a blue frame with dark blue center (Like it is supposed to do) but garbage characters randomly placed around the screen. The chip layout is completely different in this one, and I won't prioritize getting this one up and running first.
So, do any of you have an extra PLA around which I can test with, or is there other things I can try?
I've followed the C64 troubleshooting guide on the net, and it boils down to the PLA, right down to the symptomps and the change in screen when powered on and off rapidly.
