P.S. I posted this in the Commodore forum, but I decided to post here as well, since I figured that other members might be interested in checking out some of these great 8-bit BBS's! :p

I'm happy to report that for this update, there were NO deletions, 1 addition, and 1 has returned to online status after being offline due to hardware problems. So there are now 16 currently active Commodore BBS's! :)

Have a great day! :)

Thanks for continuing to post this list wiskow!

I find it awesome that there are still Commodore BBS's, and that the list actually grew!

Long live nostalgia computing! :)

The October 2007 edition of the Commodore 64/128 Bulletin Board List is now ready for viewing. You can access the list at the following address:

Current stats on C64/128 BBS's: As of today, 12 are up and running. 2 were up last month, but are not working right now, so will remain on the list to see if they return. 1 is down, but I&ve received confirmation from the SysOp that it will be returning. 4 were removed from the list due to being down for over 2 months and no communication from the SysOp.

There you have it! :)

Awww, you don't have dial-up access any longer?

Thanks for the update!

Well, the one BBS that was listed in the "dial-up" section hasn't been up for a couple years now. The SysOp of the BBS assured me that he'd have his BBS back up "soon" when I took over maintaining this list back in March, so I added his info to the list along with a note stating that it was down "temporarily". However, since his BBS is *still* down, I decided to remove the info from the list until he actually does bring it back online. I tried running my own BBS as a dial-up system, just as it was back in the late 80's, for a few months starting in November of last year. However, after making the switch to a Telnet-accessable system, it became obvious that Telnet boards are much more popular than dial-up these days, so I have no intention of going back. :)

Yeah, I *thought* yours had dial-up access for a while. Don't blame ya, no real sense in dial-up these days; nevertheless, sad to see the passing of another era...

(Well, for us weird old fogeys, that is...)

There are currently 14 active Commodore BBS's, plus 1 that is temporarily down until early January while the SysOp is on holiday vacation.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! :)

In an effort to consolidate my various websites onto my own server, the C64/128 BBS List is now located at http://cottonwood.servebbs.com/cbm-bbs-list.txt ... I'll still keep it posted at the old address for a while, but eventually it'll only be available at the new address.

Additionally, the Cottonwood BBS Informational Website is now at http://cottonwood.servebbs.com , and my personal website is at http://cottonwood.servebbs.com/wiskow . Simple HTML pages with a note providing the new addresses have been posted at the old addresses.

The current state of the C= BBS Scene is as follows:

19 BBS's verified up and running.

2 additions (1 is DIAL-UP!) and 1 deletion.

You can now get to the C64/128 BBS List with less typing! Get it quickly by going to http://cbm-bbs-list.tk ... Note that this is a web forwarding address, so the old address will still work, too. :)

Cool, thanks wiskow!

I'm still waiting on the arrival of my C-64. Perhaps I can find a modem for it, and some communications software, and actually login to your BBS directly!

You're welcome. :)

Communications software shouldn't be a problem... You can find some for the C64 here: http://server.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/c64/comm/index.html

As for a modem, they regularly show up on eBay... Or, I could send you a Commodore 1670 modem (1200 baud) for the cost of shipping. Let me know if you're interested. :)
