Hello everyone,

I need help with my Compaq Contura 4/25 mono laptop.

It was working fine until yesterday. It happened suddenly. The displayed screen is yellow.
The laptop was turned off and turned on again but nothing helped.
When I move the contrast slider it doesn't respond.
I'm looking for information on what could have been damaged

I am attaching photos of the fault and photos of the components.

Please give me directions on locating the fault and help me solve the problem.

Best regards Marcin from Poland.

Welcome to the forum @MacGyver .

Based on the fact that you still have output and backlight, the controller is clearly working. My guess is that at least one of the capacitors in the circuitry that sets the contrast has gone. You might also want to test the output from the contrast slider, and apply some deoxit, to make sure that the pot is functional.

Problem solved!

I replaced it with an electrolytic capacitor C33
The Compaq Contura screen came back to life !!!

I have another problem with the matrix, but I don't think it will be possible without replacing it.

Unfortunately, I don't have another functional one to replace.

Is it possible to do something about it?

Below are photos of the problem :( :(

Thanks again for your help.

This damage is not from overheating the hotair !!!

It was already like this when I bought it

If the LCD panel consistently has this issue, aging of the polarizer or damage of the LCD(glass) may be to blame. To check which one is damaged, you can attempt to disassemble the LCD panel. If the polarizer is the issue, fixing it shouldn't be too tough.
