I know they are rare, but if anyone has one for sale it can't hurt to ask. My budget is whatever it's worth to you (within reason).
 
I did see that listing. I'm all for repairing vintage machines, but this doesn't even come with a keyboard
;). Anyways, that looks like one rabbit hole of a project...
 
I did find it interesting that one case has more venting. I wonder if that was for the 66mhz option and it ran hotter.
 
I have a 486C that I got in perfect condition, with a dead LCD. There's a well-documented process for replacing the LCD with a modern model.

Bringing this post back up to note that I'm willing to pay shipping for anyone who has one who wants to sell it.
 
I hope you are able to track one down! It took me years of checking ebay every single morning to finally catch an excellent condition 486c. I picked up a 486 non color screen model from Goodwill's auction site as well, so that could be a place to watch.

I will keep my eye out for one though and let you know! It was definitely a life goal for me to find one, but what I've found in this hobby, is if you search long and hard enough, you can find just about anything.
 
I found a network general sniffer, which is rebranded compaq portable 486c, but it's in rough shape. I'm still on the lookout for one.
