Compaq Portable III memory error.

There is a damaged Portable III for few dollars wich I'am going to buy.
The machine was sitting for few years in garage not powered up.
At first time when seller powered it up it counted memory to 640 kB and then locked up.
On next power ups it says something like that: "010000 0000 201 memory error".
What kind of memory uses Portable III?

256 X 9 SIMM - DISCONTINUED 107380-001
1 MB X 9 SIMM - DISCONTINUED 107379-001

portable IIIs are just nice, apart from stripping them down. loads of torx screws!

One thing it might be is a CMOS config error. if the battery has gone flat (which it almost certainly has!). I used a mobile phone battery to replace the one in mine, with a diode and resistor off a handy 5V line to keep it charged up.

If it does end up being the memory itself, and you haven't got any, I have quite a few 36(?) pin sims, I'll have to test them on my III for functionality & compatibility, but you're welcome to a few.
