Of the lot, a working VAXstation 4000/90 (VS49K-AA) definitely has the most value. Asking prices on eBay can be a bit crazy and might not represent current market value. Sold prices on eBay are usually more helpful.

From a quick look at sold item on eBay, I see:
VAXstation 4000/60 $1,365.00 Sold Oct 21, 2023 Item: 175897391638
VAXstation 4000/90 $2,162.43 Sold Nov 1, 2023 Item: 195855468522
VAXstation 4000/96 $7,100.00 Sold Sep 6, 2023 Item: 145271187241

Not a lot of sales data, but enough to show that you probably shouldn't let someone lowball offer you on the VAXstation 4000/90. Of course it also depends on where the item is located, and whether the full functionality can be demonstrated.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Like you Said the full functionallity is not Done but it does boot up fine, the ”musical” tune boot up is Also going in console. Im Talking about the 4000-90. Yes the prices seems crazy on the particular model i have , even current model that sales on some American websites are asking between 7000-10000 $ which is crazy.

I think the crazy prices are people hoping some one needs a particular model for some legacy project. I have seen requests for specific models on USENET NEWS comp.os.vms.
The high price for that model 96 reflects the fact it was in almost perfect condition and is, I think, at 45 VUPS (roughly VUPS = MIPS) the fastest model available.
The model 90 is 32 VUPS. I could not find an exact figure for the 3100/80 but I guess 10 or 12...

... which is perhaps there are lots of 3100's on E-Bay.

the other trick when looking at E-Bay listings is to sort by newly listed, then you can see when an item was listed. Note it doesn't show the year, but some items haven been there a long time.

No problems. Its a bit of a war zone out there and I think its very hard to figure out a fair price for such boxes. So whilst I have a three VaxStations and a couple of MicroVax most were given to me, these days I might struggle to replace them (I am in the UK). On the other hand I think, again, being in the UK where the market is smaller I might struggle to sell them as well! Best of luck....

I usually look at the list of ‘completed items‘ on eBay rather than the ‘for sales’ when I’m trying to value something. ’For sale’ values are what someone might like to get whereas ‘sold’ ones are the true value to whoever bought them.

You’re right there Dave - someone’s been trying to sell a functional 4000/60 for a couple of months now and can’t even get £300 for it!

You need to select "sold" as completed includes that didn't sell. If there are no "sold" sorting current items by "newly listed" can let you see how long they hang around for. Some items have been there for years...

True re ‘sold’ though it’s as informative to see what didn’t sell and at what asking price. You do get quite a few items turning up that I’d say were desirable but didn’t go at the price listed - I’ve a few bits and pieces in that category gathering dust that I’ve put off listing. ;(
