The first time you crack the edge connector on a Douglas card because the connector is too shallow
you'll wish you had a real DEC extender.
It happens mostly on Qbus systems when you have cables attached to the top of the card, since there
is no horizontal support when it's off of the card guides.

This is true. I've put my own connectors on some of their cards though. I had a junked backplane out of an Applicon system, which isn't a DEC bus but uses a compatible deep connector with the same slot/tab spacing.
