How to turn on notification of thread activity?

Is there a way to get notified of activity on a certain thread? Some of these go dormant for months and it would be good to get a heads up notice.
Or is that what "subscribe to this thread" means?

Yes. Subscribe, and set the notification method to email. That is one thing vBuillten will actually do reliably.
