I knew someone who had an IBM PC/XT in the early 1990s, and I'm almost certain he ran IBM DOS 5 on it at the end. It's been a number of years now, but I distinctly remember seeing those 360K 5.25" IBM DOS 5 floppies. I even think I was the one who installed DOS 5 on it for him. I do know he didn't have a 3.5" drive in that machine.
They may not have been easy to find, but it makes sense that IBM would have wanted to sell DOS upgrades to owners of those older machines that sported 5.25" drives from the factory.
