IIgs Transwarp questions

The card appears to be in good shape, of course that doesn't mean too much. But there are no obvious signs of damage, blown caps, etc. Any suggestions for things to check or try?

Assuming the TWGS is set to its default settings, when it boots, it will display the animated TRANSWARP GS logo, with whooshing sounds as it splashes on the screen and then disappears. Sorta like this:

The socket on the GS motherboard is pretty sensitive to the number of extractions/insertions. The pins on the factory TWGS cable are very brittle (unless it came with an improved replacement cable). GENTLY spread the pins on the cable apart, and carefully re-insert it into the socket. We're aiming for optimal socket contact. Try that first, then we'll investigate other possibilities.

Edit: better one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39L4pBRRBCs

I did what you suggested with the pins and there was no difference.

I'm still a bit suspicious of the whole oscillator kludge. Does anyone know what the behavior is if the oscillator is removed? I'm just wondering if either mine is installed wrong or is not the proper part?

More ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

Wi

If the oscillator isn't present, the TWGS cannot fully initialize and will not boot or be accessible. What oscillator did you put on it? Help me out, my vision isn't what it used to be, a better pic would help. Can I see your full TWGS, with the cable attached to it? It can be installed (but obviously better if it's not).

If you're in the USA, my offer to send a known good oscillator or two stands. That's the next troubleshooting step, replace the oscillator. If you have another IIGS, I'd consider trying the TWGS in it also, and see if the results are the same.

I used the oscillator that was recommended in an earlier post (http://www.ebay.com/itm/111064908676). As I mentioned before, it's too big for the socket, so I made an adapter out of an IC socket. Pins 7 and 8 of the oscillator go straight through to 4 and 5 on the Transwarp socket, and pins 1 and 14 on the oscillator are brought back to 1 and 8 on the Transwarp.

I'm at work so don't have any good pics of my card, but I can get a few and post. I do have another IIgs and can try that too. I am assuming that if just the Transwarp hardware (no software) is installed, that the machine should still boot? Is that correct?

I am in the US and at this point think I'll take you up on the oscillator offer. I'll PM you.

Thanks,
Win

Got your PM -- I'll try to get a few crystals in the mail to you this weekend.
