Is it worth keeping an Olivetti ETV 250 typewriter with CRT monitor?

@Loki: If you are interested: Just 100 km from my home another ETV 2700 dual floppy disk version is offered in eBay Allemagne. http://www.ebay.de/itm/Olivetti-ETV-2700-/281792823411?hash=item419c294073 Noone bidded yet so it is still at 1 €. If you want it I can try to get it and bring it to Thionville, then we can swap parts and you have a working one.

And here, next to Hannover (Hildesheim) is the better and rare 20 MB hardisk version (I have one, too): http://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-...-mit-screen-etv2700-ms-dos/360186497-168-3147

By the way: Do you have the ETV 2700 boot diskette in french version?

You say that you have an user manual for etv 2700, where you find it ? Nothing on the net except for sold at high cost, sigh

Oh, i see, so you sure better know the 2700 than me (its not diffcult in same time)

I have now registered for Thionville, but I will be only there at saturday. Hope, that we can meet. I'll bring ETV 250 and 260. We can have a look at your 2700.

i've just checked all, except in case of big problem, i will be there ! (and i think that the only chance for fix my 2700 so sure that i want to come)

"By the way: Do you have the ETV 2700 boot diskette in french version?" i've just see that
i have only the 2/2 diket programm (the 1/2 is somewhere in the hospital..but its so big that i will never find it), so, consider that i havent the boot programm

I have only german. If you would have the complete french version, then I would be interested to save it. Please have a look onto your disktette and post the filenames here. Maybe everything you need is on it. Here is the content of the german single diskette version:

i know its strange, but, i have 13 pc, but no one in function with diskette reader, so....

but i can bring the diskette that i have too if you want it

Yes, please bring it, we will have a look onto it. Bring also an empty 720 kb diskette, then I can copy you the german ETV 2700 SWP V1 diskette which is working for my ETV 2700 DD (double (floppy) disk). The ETV 2700 HD version (hard disk) version uses SWP V2 which does not fit on one 720 kB floppy disk. I don't have the SWP V2 install disks, I have only a backup of the installed files on my archive harddisk, copyied from my ETV 2700 HD. If I have enough space in the car I also might bring my ETV 2700 HD that you can see one in action. (I only plan for ETV 250 & 260 at the moment)

Could you please reserve a table for you? I did as well. You should note that you want to have the table directly besides me (1ST1). http://www.classic-computing.org/page/pages/classic-computing-2015/inscription-cc-2015.php?lang=FR

Note about language versions of the ETV 2700 diskette:
1. the autoecec.bat does not load a keybgr/keybfr.exe like a normal PC. This also would work but then the keyboard layout would be quite different in the 2nd layer. Speical function keys like the "typewriter" key would also have a different function (numeric keyapad)
2. instead of keybxx the etv_dd.sys is loaded in the config.sys file. This includes national keyboard layout like seen on the keyboard also the red characters at the front of the keys what is quite different from original PC's layout will get a sense.
3. etv_dd.sys also contains the printer driver, the printer is only initialized and useable when this device driver is loaded. The printer driver also contains a TSR which is accessible over the "typewriter key" what let's you control the printer directly, that means like a manual typewriter. The userinterface of this typewriter mode is german on my etv_dd.sys diskette, but not clear if there is an OVL file for that.
4. My etv_dd.sys prints message at booting, that it has loaded national keyboard and daisywheel layout "458". This is Olivetti specific language code for German. (158=old german layout ET 121, Et 201, 221, 231, 351, Praxis 20/30/35/40/41/45D), 458=new german layout (ET 109, 110, 111, 112, 116, 2200, 22250 MD, 2300, 2400, 2450MD, 2500, ET Compact 60,65, 66, 77, ET Personal 50, 55, 56, 1250, ETV 240, 250, 260, 2700, Praxis 100, 200, Linea 101, etc.). This language code is also printed on the front of the daisy wheels.
5. It looks like the files SWPHELPx.OVL and SWPMSGx.OVL conatins the text messages of the SWP application, so if your disk contains all of them, then we can try to replace them on the copy of a german disk to generate a french SWP.
6. Additional to the original installation disks of ETV 260 and 2700 HD versions I have also installed a complete set of DOS commands on my machines from an Olivetti branded MS-DOS 3.20 boot diskette which I still have. MS-DOS 3.20 language is completely english.

I wil bring beside the ETVs: TA Wallkstation 386 with 3,5 inch drive and a netbook with USB floppy drive capable reading 720 kB disks.

i bring some other diskette that i found here, not only one cause i dont know if there will be able to write something after so many years in dust. Hopefully, that not take a lot of place...
That can be nice to see it, and more to see mine if you succed of course uhu

I'v juste reserved, and ask for a table nex to you, so i will bring the ETV 2700 and the 116

I have also few version of msdos and the software Olitext, but i think you dont need it, so your software will be welcome for me, cause i'm not sure that i have all of what you mentioned on the diskette (in case, i totally dont know what was written on it)

Olitext SWP is the full name of the software for ETV 2700, so there is a good chance you have it. Bring all disks and we'll see.

Olitext MWP = ETV 240, 250, 300, 350 (Maybe also ETV 210s and CWP-1 but they are ROM based)
Olitext SWS = ETV 260
Olitext SWP = ETV 2700 (SWP V1 = floppy disk only version, SWP V2 = harddisk version)

i dont know what version i have, the folder simply named olitext1.685beta with this in

Hello, I have fixed my ETV 201s yesterday evening. The problem was the onboard integrated power supply. There is a regulation circuit for the voltages which did not get a feedback from the output of the voltage regulator transistors. The problem was that two variable resistors had a too high resitance. After changing them and setting up the volatges to the correct values (taken from ET 116 service manual) and cleaning the mechanics a bit it was starting. :)

The special on this machine is, that it uses a thermotransfer printhead, same like IBM Quietwriter series. It can do lift-off correction without extra correction ribbon, she does it with different temperature of the print head on the normal ribbon. Here is a video from IBM showing a quietwriter in action, the ETV 210s looks similar when printing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu8JVHH2UYA

nice job man !

but , stop me if i say something wrong, but thermotransfer paper is not specialy strong in time , right ?

It does not use thermal transfer paper. I think its a wax transfer process. So the head gets hot and melts a waxy ink onto the paper. Its probably one of the more permanent inks along with laser...

Yes, it melts some color from the ribbon to the paper. And even better, that print head even is able to lift off / delete / correct letters printed to the paper by going over it again with a different temperature. A pretty cool technology. Looking that printhead while it works is very fascinating, but I can't do it too often as I don't know how much is left over from that ribbon and where to get a new one. So I have to be careful by now.
