How to repair joystick. Erratic pitch and roll control.
While flying my TBF Avenger on a torpedo run to slam a fish into the side of the carrier IJN Shoho, flying at 100 ft above the water and less than 100 mph, I lost pitch control and slammed into water. I did not survive the crash. Had to create a new plane and pilot.

Can you disassemble it by unscrewing the bottom of it? I assume that dust accumulation over the years is the culprit....
 
I have and it's clean. This is the umteenth stick I've bought over the years and I try not to be too aggressive/ violent action. I'm actually trying to find any retro or after market-rebuild kits. I've tried reapplying non-conducting silicon grease to no avail.
 
Buy a proper joystick that does not rely on mechanical read-out. The Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro for example is a very good one for old PCs. It's using optical sensors.
 
Does the Precision Pro actually work in DOS? I thought it used some digital protocol sent over the gameport that requires Windows drivers.

I've had good experience with CH sticks. They are still the same design as 30 years ago, although they are USB now.
 
I don't see any mentioning of DOS in his posts. But it certainly works when starting a DOS game from Win9x.

Sorry. I wasn't completely clear: IBM DOS OS/2 WARP Version 3 VGA video support.

The stick worked fine when it was new. It's just tired and worn out.

Switch from OS/2 to Windows 98. If the game is for DOS, it will probably run even better then.

Or maybe the Sidewinder 3D is an option. That one works in DOS. Not fully sure if it was using optical sensors, too, however.
