OK.
Last night, I checked the old 386 thqat I use foe this sort of thing. The one with the floppy drives, and more important, the 'good' FDC. The last time I was using it, there was a problem with the CMOS battery.
And, all is OK. It was not happy about starting up, and took me into the CMOS setup, but I've got all the answers noted and it got sorted, and once it booted, everything is fine. I looked at the IMD system, and yes, the basic system does support another image format, but it's one I've never met. IMD is the 'native' system, but it can convert from TD0 and I have used TD0 images before.
I've got a PC disk that is SS, 320k (8 sector) format and I was able to make a copy of that OK (A very old IBM badged version of CP/M 86).
Yes, I had a USB floppy drive, and gave up on it. It worked OK for a while, then became increasingly unreliable, then became so unreliable that it was useless. Too many cheap plastic bits inside? Now I just do things the long way around, use a machine with a proper floppy drive and copy to a mem stick, then use the mem stick in the laptop.
If it's only a handfull of disks, that'll be no problem.
I note the info about the 5150/5160. The 5150 may well be 5.25 only, and may well be 160/326k format. Unless you've got later format drives in? The 5160 should be the later format, but still 5.25. There is mention of later variants getting 3.5" drives, but this seems to be NOT HD. But you mention 1.44 mb?
Well, we'll see!!
