As per my other post in the Wanted section (http://vintage-computer.com/vcforum/viewtopic.php?p=1772#1772), I have two 386 laptops that I'd like to get working again, but there's a problem: I'm missing the AC/DC power adpaters for both laptops.

While new replacements are out of the question, monetarily speaking, I'm wondering if it would be possible to wire in new power sources somehow. For instance, on the Altima, I took out the power wire that leads from both the battery and the DC plugin: 3 wires from the battery (7.2V) and 8 wires from the DC plugin (9-9.5V). Surely there could be another type of plugin adapter I could replace the current DC connector with, so I could use a universal switchable power supply (like from Radio Shack). Everyone knowledged in both computer and electronics whom I've conversed with have said it would be possible.

Any ideas or leads? For instance, I'd most likely need the wire leadouts on a diagram to I know exactly what kinda of wires I'm playing with.
