I'm looking for two 8MB sticks of memory for my recently acquired PS/2 L40 SX. Problem is it doesn't take your good ol' standard 72-pin SIMMs. It's proprietary (leave it to IBM). They physically prevent you from installing normal SIMMs by requiring a deeper notch in the middle.

If someone wants to sell me two sticks, I'm willing to pay quite handsomely since there's really no other place to find these things at an even remotely reasonable price.

IBM P/N 79F1001 FRU 79F1004

This is what I can best figure it looks like (note the deeper notch):

Thanks for the suggestion. You're right, it's not hard to do. I've modded a 4MB module and it works fine. Problem is, you can only have one installed. You can have two 8MB modules installed, and I want more RAM. I've tried modding 16MB SIMMs to 8MB per this page

But it's proving more difficult. I tried reworking a 16MB module with GM71C17400-AJ6 chips. System would not boot. Tried the other slot, even Deoxit. I figured I might have gotten a bad stick. Tried reworking another one. It boots but I get a 225 error. Maybe I just got a bad batch. I don't know.

I may try buying a couple of sticks with TC5117400BSJ-60 chips, but I wanted to see if I could get the correct memory before spending more money on maybe-it-will-work.
