Bought a NEC powermate 1 a while back that had some motherboard issues and then died. Description as follows:
640kb base, no ext.
(in order of events)
- keyboard seemed to be VERY sensetive about being plugged in (it was fully in but for some reason woudnt pick it up unless certain angle). I pegged this to the solder on the socket
- Random hanging
- I then ran topbench as it audibly clicks the pc speaker so i knew when it hang. It hanged after a few minutes with a NMI
- A20 gate failure started appearing on boot
- Complete failure. No video out, No POST
Good things ( that may help narrow the issue)
Memory always passed self test.
No issue with any of the ISA slots
Extended memory passed tests (when it was in the machine before i pulled it to see if it was an issue)
Was booting from XTBIOS via NIC + ISA BRIDGE + SD card
All DIP switched on the board appeared to operate correctly
Power supply is fine. Was tested on a powermate 286 board.
I suspect definetley the keyboard controlelr, but as to why it hanged / died alltogether is a mystery
I would describe the board as reasonably clean for its age, some very light corrosion (percieved as "roughness") on the top of clock crystals. all text intact.
no obvious patches(brown horrors) of corrosion of the board or corrosion of solder joints. i would some areas of the internal chassis as the same "rough" feel...light corrosion
Pins on chips appear to be fully intact
I would very much like for someone to repair this motherboard if possible. I lack all the electronics related equipment.
More than happy to send this board anywhere on this planet to be fixed.
'I have a VERY strong sentimental attachment to this model as it was my very first computer, as such i would really like this motherboard repaired, and the unit back in use.
Find a large photo below
For some reason the photo makes the board components more corroded than they are. those clock crystals do not look like that on the real deal, and he 74* series logic chips are perfectly legible in the flesh
As such, a cash reward is offered for her salvation. Name a price.
