I was just reading a bit in the XT-IDE 2.0 BIOS thread, where there was an announcement that the new version can boot through a serial port. Very interesting option to run diskless systems, but that got me wondering about network boot... I know that used to be a thing with Novell boot roms etc.
Has anyone ever succeeded in booting plain DOS from a PXE (or other) boot rom like iPXE or gPXE or something like that? Especially on an old vintage machine?

I have mostly 3c509 and EtherExpress boards in my machines, some of them have a ROM socket, and I have an (EE)PROM programmer.
