Is there a good source of scanned DEC documentation online somewhere?

While cleaning out my storage building, I uncovered a large box of Professional 300 Series documentation. It contains 8 or 9 large DEC blue 3 ring binders containing manuals. The binder I brought home is labeled "Developer's Tool Kit Volume 4". It contains 3 manuals:
  1. P/OS System Reference Manual AD-N620A-TI
  2. P/OS System Reference Manual AA-N620A-TK
  3. Telephone Management {TMS} Programmer's Manual AA-AD34A-TA
I hate to send them to the landfill, particularly if they are not archived somewhere. I would like to check to see if the manuals are archived. I would also be glad to donate them to anyone who is willing to pay the packing and shipping costs {They are heavy!}.

I'm willing to pay the packing and shipping cost for this one :-}. DM sent.

That’s an amazing find! There are a few places that archive DEC documentation, like bitsavers.org and the DEC legacy archives. It might be worth checking there first.

In the order listed, the following scans are online, although we need to verify the publication dates (year, month):

AA-BT74A-TH_Professional_Developers_Tool_Kit_Reference_Manual_198404.pdf
AA-P103B-TK_PRO_FMS-11_Documentation_Supplement_198305.pdf
AA-N623B-TK_Terminal_Subsystem_Manual_198305.pdf
AA-L680B-TC_tkb_198304.pdf
AA-N620A-TK_POS_System_Reference_Manual_198310.pdf
AA-P099A-TK_PRO_RMS-11_An_Introduction_198211.pdf
AA-L669A-TC_RSX-11M_M-PLUS_RMS-11_Users_Guide_Apr83.pdf
AA-P193B-TK_IAS_RSX-11_ODT_Reference_Manual_Supplement_198305.pdf
AA-M507A-TC_IAS_RSX_V4.0_ODT_Reference_Manual_Jan82.pdf
AA-V027A-TC PDP-11 MACRO-11 Language Reference Manual March 1983.pdf
AA-BT73A-TH_Guide_to_Writing_a_POS_Driver_and_Advanced_Programmers_Notes_198404.pdf

There appear to be 19 unscanned documents in your set, possibly more if yours have different publication dates (thus different editions) than the ones online.

IMO it would best if the unique documents could be shipped to Al Kossow for professional scanning and archiving on Bitsavers.

I will try to add the publication dates to the list tomorrow.

Does Bitsavers pay shipping cost or would I need to do that?

email me and I can send a shipping address. I can take care of USPS economy postage.
there is also no need to ship any vinyl binders to make the package smaller

Thank you for the update, and for making these documents available to the community, via Bitsavers!
Attached is a simple spreadsheet with my findings, possibly of use to Al later.
Unless you object, I am sending the TMS manual to Al for scanning. Thought I would check with you since you asked for it first. I am sending him all of them except the ones you identified as duplicates.

I recommend sending them _all_ (including the TMS manual) to Al and let him judge whether a re-scan would be desirable (e.g., while the text may be fine any included images/photos/illustrations/schematics require special care that may not have been taken in the scans currently online). I didn't assess the quality of the existing scans and not all scans online originated with Al, who pays a lot of attention to saving the highest possible quality of _all_ pages.

Weird I have a four binder set of POS documentation in dark grey binders.

Oh wait, there is a fifth.

And it's 1.0 as opposed to 2.0. Cool there is a later version.

Those Ultrix manuals are pure gold.

All of the manuals I found are on the way to Al to go in the bitsavers archive. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Really? Aren't they scanned somewhere?

C
I see the System Management Guide and Programmers Guide 1 online. I don't see Programmers Guide 2 & 3. Programmers Guide 1 looks like a dump of man pages. And Yes, Ultrix-11 won't be that different from Venix or BSD.
