Opinions on the Diamond Viper VLB video card?

I just picked up one of these mint in da box. It boosts that its the "World's Faster VLB Graphics Accelerator" on its box. Question is, did it later lose that title to the #9 GXE64 (S3 864) that I currently have in my 486? This card is revision A7, it has the Weitek 5186 for VGA graphics as opposed to the Oak chip. BIOS revision is 1.12.

They were super fast for Windows 3.1 in 256 color mode. For DOS they suck, and are not that fast in true color windows mode either.

So it depends what you are doing with them. Matrox made a fast true color win 3 VLB board, last generation S3 boards were great in Windows as well.


I would keep the GXE64, that is what I use with max RAM.
