Osborne 1 bypassing the floppy ribbon cable for power to the floppy drives.

Anyone done it?

Is it a worthwhile mod?

I'm asking because my Osborne 1 only has one connector used on the power supply output.

I'm thinking of using the two unused outputs, one each for each floppy drive.

I already replaced the Rifa caps and am thinking of improving the reliability of the computer.

You just take two connectors from the PSU to the Main PCB like the later models did.

That would be easiest.

It would be possible to use the Gotek Adapter to run a normal FDD though if you wanted to do that. I'm not sure how well it would work - but it's reasonably possible it would work OK.

What are you wanting to do or accomplish?

I have read that the Osborne's had a some issues with the power via the floppy cables and since I had a couple unused power supply connectors I could just power them directly.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it.

New pic of the power supply power supply with the new caps.

Never had an issue with power issues. It seems like it would possibly introduce other problems. Would you run only +12v or both +12v and -12v?
