I purchases this off eBay recently. Installed it tonight on my Commodore Colt. It is great having a tool kit for DOS again. Going though the programs brought back fond memories. Compress and System Information alone are worth what I paid. I need to use Mirror soon and then try Backup. I remember Mirror getting back most of my hard drive years ago when the Michalangelo virus got me.

Congrats! I used Central Point's PC-Tools Deluxe 6 quite often in the 90s on my 286.
It was running DOS 6.20 on a 40MB Conner AT-Bus HDD (80MB but using fake CHS due to BIOS limits).

Compress was very helpful for defragmenting my little HDD.
It was much more clever in organizing files on my HDD than, say Defrag,
which MS borrowed from that other company. ;)

On modern hardware, however, I realized some trouble with the old Compress.
For some reason, Compress v6 had refused to work. Maybe it was related to DOS 6.22 or the HDD beeing to large, dunno.
Anyway, Compress v7.x works fine on newer hardware, so it was not really a problem back then.

If we consider how old Compress v6 is, -it's from the days of DOS3.3/DOS 4-,
it is a small wonder that it worked at all with FAT16B media or DOS 6.x.

Btw, my father used to use a release of Central Point's PC-Backup from '85 or so.
And when we restored those 5.25" floppies using PC-Restore years ago,
it worked just fine on hardware that was made approx. 20years after,
which I think it is remarkable!
