Having now got the drives to talk to the PET is seems the read or write heads may be faulty.

Testing pin to pin resistance one head is open circuit.
Does anyone know what readings I should get?

Hi Dave,
I have my 3040 on the bench today, trying to fix a faulty analogue board (one is fixed, can be used as a reference); if you need any readings from myself, please let me know :-) I am an absolute beginner with electronics, so please be patient if I donßt catch up with something.

Hi Joe,
Thanks, I was after the resistance readings between the 4 pins on the plugin connector to each of the drive heads IE
pin 1-2 pin 1-3 pin 1-4 pin 2-3 pin 2-4 and 3-4
Testing with the heads unpluged from the board.
My drives have differnet readings on each of the 2 drives so I guess at least one is faulty.

I guess the above connector? Interestingly, P9 on the top image becomes P10 on the lower and vice versa...dont know if I am missing something.

With the connectors disconnected, I have "open" between all the pins on p9/p10 respectively.

With the connectors plugged in, I have the following (reference upper picture)
P9
Pin 1-5 16 ohms
Pin 1-3 25 ohms
Pin 1-4 29 ohms

p10
Pin 1-5 16 ohms
Pin 1-3 25 ohms
Pin 1-4 29 ohms

Hope that helps...

Joe
