PET's sensitive?

What you experience with these things is the age a factor in problems. The machine I robbed for memory to fix the Fat 40 bring it to life, is now dead all I did was pulled the memory because it was socketed to use to prove the 40 working a week or so ago. New mem came in today replaced no boot, no noise no nothing....

At least it is fun to work on.
 
I'm inclined to believe that the PET's poorly supported mainboard is inclined to break traces when flexed from actions like removing/inserting socketed ICs.

Just a theory, but it seems to go along with the touchy PETs that sometimes stop working when you move them around, but will spontaneously work again for no apparent reason later.
